Abstract
In order to investigate the harmful trace elements in Korean common food, the contents of Copper, Lead, Cadmium, Mercury, Arsenic, Manganese and Zinc are studied in this paper.
Food samples studis as shows in table 3. are cereals: Stroberry (7), Welsh Onion(10), Garlic(10), Lettuce(10), and Garlend Chrysanthomum(10), Spinach(10), Cabbage(10), Samples are collected from the agricultural field.
The contents of copper, lead, cadmium, mercury, Manganese, and Zinc are determined by means of atomic absorption spectrophotometry (perkin-Elmer Model 403) and the content of arsenic are determined by spectrophotometry (perkin-Elmer UV-Vis Model 138).
The results are shown in table 4.
1) The contents of harmful trace elements (Cu, Pb, Cd, Hg and As) of Korean foods are significantly low compraed with the foreign strandars.
This means that food contamination with those harmful trace elements is not significant at present.
2) However, samples studied in the paper were very limited, this study should be extented to cover differences by season, geography and farm on basis of statisfical concept.
